In June of 2004, I put a form up on my website and asked my personal trainer and fitness professional cutomers and subscribers to give me some feedback about the impact my fitness marketing products and newsletters are having on them.
Now, most marketers will take this kind of feedback, filter out any bad and ugly stuff and just show you the good stuff. In fact, most marketers won't ask this pointed question: "How could I improve my service to you?" Because that just opens the door for all sorts of potentially negative comments. But I did. I asked that question. And I'm showing you the answers.
I'm all about bettering my best, so I definitely wanted the feedback, even if it was negative. But I had no intention of sharing that part with everyone - it was originally just to help me improve my service. But then I had an idea (ouch - that hurt). Why not show everything to everybody? Let 'em see me, warts and all.
I'll tell you, this may backfire in my face. This much honesty might not be good for business. But I'm willing to risk it. So, here's what I've done. Rather than pulling "select" quotes from each response, I decided to just post it all, in its entirety.
This is the "dirty low-down" on me and my fitness marketing systems and newsletters.
NOTE: Some respondents did not answer every question, in that case I did delete that part because there's no need to show you the question if there's no answer associated with it.
Now, all I ask you to keep in mind as you peruse this stuff - and you really should read it all because there's lots of enlightening comments and even some specific strategies that my customers and subscribers discuss - is that this is feedback from, as I mentioned, both customers (people who have bought one or more of my products) and subscribers (people who receive my emails and have downloaded some of the various free ebooks I offer, and/or attended some of my free teleseminars).
Generally speaking, the way to know the difference is that my customers have generated some pretty substantial results - significant ROI - whereas my subscribers' results are more modest. That's to be expected, because the level of knowledge - specific strategies, tactics and tools - is substantially higher for customers than it is for subscribers, and, again - generally speaking, the commitment to application - to ACTION - is greater with my customers.

I am simply one who receives Eric's information for free. I haven't spent any money on his products (yet), so I can't tell you from experience how great they are. This, however, is what I do know. Eric is not your average salesperson, or even business person for that matter. I would even venture to say that he isn't your average person either, at least not the kind that I run into everyday. He is simply a man who is trying to teach others to fish so that they may feed themselves. It's pretty unusual in today's world to come across individuals who are willing to give without receiving. That's what Eric has done for me regulary, and for some time now, as a subscriber to his newsletter and a recipient of various "free" products he has created. How could Eric improve his service to you?: Eric, I think you are the cream of the crop when it comes to personal training business development. My opinion is to keep doing what you are doing because it is helping me and my business.
Please describe how Eric has specifically helped you achieve greater success with your fitness business (write as much as you like :-): In 1991 I opened my personal training studio. We were successful from the start I think mainly because of the concept – no contracts, no memberships, just buy sessions and when you are finished, you had the option to buy more, you were not locked in. Most people bought more because they were satisfied.
By 1996 we had already expanded and moved the business 5 times.
In 1996 I was reading an ad in a personal training magazine (I think it was IDEA personal trainer) and I saw Eric’s ad. What compelled me to call and get his free report was that it seemed similar to the marketing I was doing but he had a lot more ideas and everything was already done for you – meaning that he gave you specific ads and letters already written for you.
I got the report and read every page and then immediately ordered his system because it made so much sense. And the price was incredibly fair.
When I got the kit I opened it and realized that I now had everything I needed to succeed in the fitness industry.
I now had ads, target farming 3- sequence letters, 3-post card sequence, letters to set up JV’s with doctors, hair salons and even a 3-letter sequence to re-activate old clients. I knew the sky was the limit. AND he supports you. When you call him he actually answers the phone and is happy to speak with you. He’s a genuine great guy interested in helping you build a successful business.
Here’s what his system did for my business. Within 3-months of starting his system (and it is a system because everything is laid out for you and all you do is follow it, step-by-step) we generated 47 new clients. And then we implemented a referral system that turned into another 39 within the next 2 months. The business was exploding and it was because we now had a system to follow.
Here’s another example – I used Eric’s idea of teaching a seminar to a niche market and decided to hold a seminar for females only. We had 44 females in the room and signed 17of them up as personal training clients that night. Within the next week we signed up another 9 by offering them a free session at the seminar.
I implemented as many of Eric’s ideas as we could. Most of the time we would have ads running as well as endorsed offers as well as 3-letter sequence as well as seminars all going on at the same time to the same area. It works fast and it is very profitable.
Just before I sold the company we were doing close to $1,000,000 dollars in personal training. We averaged over 450 sessions per week.
While I owned the company I had trainers call me because they wanted info about Eric’s system and did it really do what Eric said it would. I immediately told them of my success and how easy it is to implement the steps. I also asked them how serious they were about making it in this industry. By the time they hung up the phone they were ready to order the system. I strongly suggest that anyone who is still thinking about it – DO IT! Don’t think, just do!
I guarantee you will only make money with the system as long as you implement the easy to follow steps. If you want to make it in this industry as a personal trainer or you own a personal training studio and you are looking for a system to put in place to grow your business and make it more profitable, you will not find a better system out there that will get you to where you want to be.

"After working in gyms and trying to make it as a trainer for 9 years, I was at my wit's end. I was graduating college and knew I wanted to be a trainer but didn't like the constant struggle to attract clients and didn't like having the gym taking some of my hourly rate. I left Gold's Gym because they were demanding the trainers stay there 8-10 hours a day six days a week, with no pay unless we had clients. Even then, the pay wasn't great. Before Eric's info I knew of a few marketting tools but I had no system in place. I now have a plan with multiple marketting angles that is helping me leverage my customer base much more effectively.

Please describe how Eric has specifically helped you achieve greater success with your fitness business (write as much as you like :-): The old saying is, Knowledge is Power. I have been somewhat empowered by the marketing suggestions I have gotten from the various downloads from Eric.
Sometimes, the simplest things are what make the biggest impact. It only makes sense to follow the things that Eric points out and as a trainer. We don't typically get to use common sense when it comes to marketing simply because we are too consumed with developing periodized training plans for our clients, earning c.e.u.'s and sitting down and studying the latest info on nutrition. When do we have time to use common sense for marketing ourselves? In fact, when do we have time to just market ourselves? Eric has shed a whole new light on why we can and how we can market ourselves and it is so simple that it just blows me away.
I live and operate a small training center in a very small town but one that does have a lot of competition. Due to my increased level of confidence from understanding Eric's marketing suggestions and how to "farm" referrals and testimonials, I now feel that no one is able to even get close to what I do. I now stand head above everyone else and now even the doctors are beginning to recognize it and sending me their patients!

How many more clients have you gotten since becoming a subscriber/customer?: To be honest I could not put a time factor to it, but it would be around 8 regualr clients I see every week and over 12 in total. In light of the way the club training situation works here in Australia, I could not fit anymore in really. I could not be happier with my situation though - and I am working on making it better still even more.
How has your income changed since becoming a subscriber/customer?: I have increased it by A$400 a week every week. On a monthly basis, over and above the $400/week, I would have increased it by close to $1500 every month

I always was confident (11 years of top aerobics helps that)but my ability in business has made me alot more switched on. However, if I had to pick one thing to focus on, it would be direction for the future. As a home personal trainer who has driving time issues in addition to actual training time, 4 or 5 clients per day is a full load for me, so time is always short.
I have to honestly say that as much as I LOVE Eric's products and newsletters, I haven't implemented a fraction of what I PLAN to implement once my schedule levels out a bit.
