Ed is an interesting case study. He owned a personal training studio a few years ago and struggled. It was barely breaking even so he couldn’t afford to pay himself a salary and was living at his parent’s home, sleeping on the couch.
After a couple years of this, he just shut the studio down.
Then he went out and got a job in the pharmaceutical industry doing demographic analysis for their sales team (a skill which came in mighty handy later).
Most people, after a business failure, would just quit right there. Especially if they were able to land a well-paying job in a growth industry. But not Ed. He ‘had a dream’ and was determined to manifest it in his life.
So he started planning his next venture - another personal training studio, in a brand new area where he did not know anyone, have any connections or relationships to leverage.
On the surface, that might not sound too smart, but it was all part of Ed’s master plan. You see, Ed used the demographic analysis skills he’d honed on the job to pinpoint THE ideal location for his next studio: a sleepy bedroom community in Sutton, Massachusetts.
While Ed was still ‘on the job’ he scouted his location, secured the lease...and joined NPE Gold Plus. He paid particular attention to the GOLD RUSH strategy/campaign, intelligently recognizing that just such an event would make for an excellent Grand Opening.
Ed planned to open his studio in September ‘07, so he started laying the ground work well in advance. He built out his GOLD RUSH web site (adapting the message to “How To Re-Claim Your Body & Health Before The End of 2007”), secured his strategic alliance partners, got his marketing together...and joined AUTO-CLOSER. (Ed’s a sharp guy and clearly recognized he needs TWO key things to make sure he hits the ground running: #1 strong marketing; #2 excellent sales skills.)
As you heard on last month’s audio, Ed did a fantastic job of getting media coverage for his GOLD RUSH event. He got his SA partners doing their share of the marketing, and leveraged a new relationship: a trainer he recently hired who had strong connections in town. She helped get the word out about the event and drove a few dozen folks to his site.
